“At Teva Community, we’re creating a new model for learning and living for nonspeaking autistic individuals who communicate by spelling and typing. We will offer education, retreats, professional trainings, and special events. We are also creating a safe, self-directed living community for autistic adults on 35 acres in the beautiful Prescott National Forest. We envision a world where all nonspeaking people are listened to, valued and fully included in all aspects of society.”

Spellers Songwriting Workshop

July 2023 – Prescott, AZ

Our Spellers Songwriting Workshop was so much fun!

Brian Laidlaw of Unrestricted Interests joined us for a second summer to work with each speller individually to create their own song, as well as a collaborative song. He set the lyrics to music and performed all of the songs on the last day of the workshop. Joining him this year were Autistically Inclined Director, Julie Sando and Becky Griffin of Advancing Life Learners

Spellers had the opportunity to work on songwriting and other text-based communication skills while connecting with peers and participating in the joys of camp.

Teva Workshops and Retreats provide opportunities for individuals (spellers, parents, siblings, professionals, volunteers) to learn and practice new communication methods and skills. They also provide an all too rare sense of belonging, fun with peers and opportunities to form lasting relationships with other families.

Through a generous grant from the Myra Reinhard Family Foundation we were able to keep costs affordable for participants.
